In this class I will introduce you to the fundamental technical, aesthetic and conceptual practices often used in digital photo-based imaging. Through live, thoughtful lectures, tutorials, class discussions, and mini-critiques of assignments, we will explore a wide range of artistic possibilities using digital cameras, scanners, and the Photoshop application. This course will help you develop a solid technical foundation in digital imaging, which will in turn, give you more time and confidence to focus on the successful creation of your photographic/digital artwork.
Before the course starts, I will meet with each student individually on zoom in order to set personal goals, share ideas, and tailor the course outline to suit the needs of each person.
Access to a digital camera would be great for this course, but it is not mandatory. You can take photos using a cell phone camera or even scan images from film. I have many old SLR film cameras that I would gladly lend out for the entirety of the course. However it is a requirement that you have access to a computer with a relatively updated version of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge (not Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Camera or Photoshop Express!). If you need help organizing this, please feel free contact me anytime. Adobe runs a subscription service (where you pay monthly/yearly). If you purchase a Photoshop subscription, Bridge is bundled for free.

This class is for students that already have a solid knowledge of how to use Photoshop and a digital camera (please read what is covered in my Introduction to Digital Imaging course). This is a project-centred, conceptually-focused course. I will help you to start, or to continue, the making of a refined body of work that is unique to your own way of seeing and thinking. We will dissect the practice of conceptual digital art-making, and also investigate how the new digital world has altered and affected contemporary photographic art.
This class will become a supportive group for your advanced digital image-making.
I will also introduce you to advanced digital photoshop and camera techniques such as producing detailed colour and black and white corrections, and making both realistic and abstract, elaborate composites.
